内容简介/Introduction:

In 1948, a story of love and hate lasting for half a century was triggered by an agrarian revolution in the northern country. In Maixiang Village located on the north shore of the Yellow River, peasants plough and sow on the land for living generation after generation. Niu dadan, a son of a long-term hired peasant, and Ma Renli, a son of a landlord, switched their social status in the vigorous “agrarian reform” movement. Peasants become the master of their own destiny, while the landlords got involved in a disadvantage situation. Niu Daduan and Ma Renli competed with each other secretly, and neither of them compromised. Niu Dadan fell in love with Yang Denger, the daughter of “his enemy” deeply, but married Qiao Yue, the fiancée of Ma Liren. Ma Renli had to endure the humiliation, like breaking his own teeth and swallowing in his stomach, behave in front of people, and lead a coward life. In the dramatic changing, peasants never got bored. In order to make a living, Niu Dadan and Ma Liren worked on the field of Maixiang Village. They experienced mutual aid team, the primary production cooperatives, advanced production cooperatives, the people’s communes, three years of natural disasters, the Cultural Revolution, and the reform and opening up, and finally they got rich… Until 2006, the State Council abolished agricultural tax which lasted for the past two thousand years. Since then, Chinese peasants began to have stable and happy lives. The book vividly reappears the dramatic changes in Chinese countries during those 60 years, and greatly enriches the images of Chinese peasants.
